In New Zealand, the Filipino community with the help of Filipino Chaplaincy and official from the Philippine Embassy also celebrates their own Sinulog Festival at St. Anne Church in Wellington.
The Sinulog Festival is a annual event held on the third Sunday of January which features a street parade wit the participants in bright coloured costumes dancing to the rhythm of drums, trumpets and native gong to honor the Santo Niño.
The festival start with a street parade around the St. Anne Hall at 12.30pm, followed by the holy mass at 1.00pm which was celebrated by Wellington Archbishop John Dew with Father Alberto Dela Cruz of Filipino Chaplaincy.
The Church was filled to capacity. I was also proud that my son is part of the event as one of the assistant of Archbishop Dew and Father Ambet during the mass.
The newly formed Filipino Chaplaincy Choir led by Mimi Laurilla added more festivities to the celebrations through their wonderful songs.
After the mass, Lunch was served and then the people were treated to some cultural presentation. The event last till afternoon but I have to go because my News editor from GMA 7 Network want the video I shoot to send immediately for 24 Oras Newscast to be televised in the Philippines .
