"Abide with me ;fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me"
A heart warming experience I felt today when I attend for the first time a memorial service to a former colleagues of mine at the Michael Fowler Centre, Chrisjan Jordaan, one of the victims of Carterton's hot air balloon crash.
Since, it was my first time I though the memorial service will focus on the tragedy. But, as Arise Church Pastor John Cameron said the service is a celebration of his life.
The Service started as Mr. Cameron welcomes the families of the victim, Mayor of Carterton Ron Mark, the New Zealand Police, friends and colleagues and a simple prayer.
After that, two hymns were sung by Arise church band: “Abide in Me” and “How great Thou Art”. While, this song was playing I felt the presence of God and I looked around some guest are starting to cry.
A tribute video was showed to the audience as Mr. Brent Cameron, Jonathan How, Allan Still, Ethan Hunter and Marty make an individual Tributes.
The Peacemaker, this was Mr. Ben Carroll described Chrisjan in his Eulogy and had a passion for rugby, friendly and always trying to help others.
I met Chrisjan and eventually work with him in Bolton Hotel in 2011, while his doing his nursing study at Massey University.
I was shocked and sad when I heard the news that Chrisjan is one of the victims of Hot Air balloon crash with girlfriend Alexis Still.
For me, Chrisjan is a quite guy and he always makes people smiles. Thank you for the wonderful memories and will forever remember you.
As you favorite song says:
“Jesus nothing compares to this grace that rescued me Saviour now and forever, your face is all I seek. Now All I am , I lay at your fee, I’m humbled by the wonder of Your majesty One thing I know, I find all I need in Your unending love”
