Waitangi Day 2008


Today , there will be a great celebration of Waitangi Day in Waitangi Park in Wellington featuring kapa haka ,drumming,dance, multicultural acts, food and stalls that family will enjoy.

Tangata whenua will host the event but all cultures are welcome and many are celebrated. Multicultural acts will perform and delicacies from around the world will be available alongside hāngi.


The event will kick off from 9:45 am to 4pm in partnership with the Wellington Tenths Trust and Wellington City Councils as part of Meridian Energy Summer City.

Entertainment will be provided by roots-reggae group Homefire Burning, Sam Manzanza and the Rhythm African Band, soul and R&B exponents M Town Classix, baritone Zane Jarvis, Cook Island drummers Maui Maui, soul singer Iva Lankum and cultural dance groups.

So, see you at Waitangi Park today and enjoy the great entertainment and since today is a holiday you can stay up late to relax while enjoying a French film under the stars. Diva (France, 1981) lights up the Botanic Garden Dell from 9pm.

This breezy film, directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix, is presented by the French Embassy and the Film Archive. Beineix, perhaps best known to many for Betty Blue (1986), debuted with DivaDiva is 117 minutes, in French with English subtitles, rated M (contains violence).

and is often grouped with the likes of Luc Besson in the ‘cinéma du look' movement of super-stylish romantic pictures.
