The year of the Rat

The Year of the Rat it is generally believed will brings with it the prospect for positive change and renewal.

Today is the first day of the Chinese new year.

In Wellington, Chinese new year will kick off on Sunday At TSB Bank Arena,Queen Wharf for the opening of Asian Market jam-packed full of delicious tasting Chinese foods,crafts among others start from 11am to 5pm.

By 2:15 pm to 3pm, The Chinese new year street parade will commence with colorful costumes , dragon dancing, and cacophony among others.

The parade route incorporates: Tennyson St to Cambridge Tce, onto Courtenay Place, turning down into Taranaki Street, heading straight towards Circa Theatre and Taranaki Wharf, continuing along the length of the Waterfront and finishing at Frank Kitts Park.


After the street parade, spend some time in Frank Kitts Park for the Chinese new Year Festival Day cultural Entertainment will start at 3pm to 5pm.




The programme begins with launching more big-bang firecrackers to ward off those bad spirits and welcome in the new Chinese Year of the Rat.


A fantastic line up of local and international entertainment is planned, some being new to Wellington – a must-see for all the family. Audience participation, having lots of fun, and being totally entertained are requirements for this event.
