The 20th Montana World of Wearableart Awards will kick off tomorrow at the TSB Arena in Wellington and has attracted entries from over the world and one third of those are from Wellington.
The Montana World of Wearableart Awards (WOW) Awards Show is now leading arts event on the International design ,fashion and costume calendars.
With more than $NZ 100,000 in prize money. WOW has attracted entries fomr the USA, UK, Australia, India, Japan,Thailand, Germany, The Netherlands, Israel, Fiji, Canada and New Zealand this year.
WOW founder Suzie Moncrief said, The success of WOW has always been dependent on new artists participating .
" We're delighted to see many international entries coming in, particularly from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and the Fashion Design Council of India. But it's just as exciting seeing so many first time entrants from Wellington this year", She said.
She said, designers are challenged to create something unique, which has impact on a 40-metre arena satage and can witstand detailed inspection.
She added 35 finalists are selected from approximately 300 global entries every year and the competition is fierce and the plethora of garments from Wellington designers and artists are extraordinary this years such as the 232keys used in Shelly Ryan Slater 's garment ,KEYMO represent the number of hours her 19-years old son has spent in chemotherapy.
