During my University days, I was fascinated reading some literature books and the Gypsy lifestyle I never dream that someday I will saw a real Gypsy or Housetrucker in my whole life but then again. Some dream may come true just wish!!!
Yes! my dream just come true! When Gypsy Travellers held their "Tinkers and Traders" along The Esplanade in Petone,Lower Hutt last December 18,2007. I stroll into the Gypsy fair I saw ornately painted trucks and buses boarder grass, visitors wander among handcraft stalls tended by women in flowing dress and dangling jewelry.
Gypsy or housetruckers are individuals, families and groups who convert old trucks and school buses into mobile-home and live in. New Zealand House truckers began appearing in New Zealand during the mid-1970s.
The fair was operated from 9am to about 4pm aside from the unique vehicle some stalls offers coffee and hand-crafted gifts such as necklace, bracelet and some gypsy clothing apparel. So next time you see a Gypsy fair just take a look and you'll loved it.
