It's a cryptic quiz meets The Amazing Race and it's happening right here in Wellington.
Wellington's wonderful waterfront is set to host a scavenger hunt unparalleled in size and scope for the city, offering a unique, entertaining and informative way to keep the kids happy during the Capital's Anniversary Weekend.
Wellington's Capital E has organised the first Scavenger Hunt for Summer City programme, drawing together many waterfront attractions. With prizes galore up for grabs, scavengers can start their hunt at any of the locations along the route. The event is any time between 10am and 4pm Saturday January 23.
But of course, that's not all! The Scavenger Hunt Extravaganza takes place following the day's hunt from 4pm to 5pm, serving up some steaming hot entertainment for all ages with Legacy Dance Company, magician Nigel Kennedy and amazing acrobats. Admission is only $5 or free for anyone with a completed clue sheet (available from Capital E).
Just like the popular TV show The Amazing Race, participants are invited to complete clues to take them to each location, and then complete an activity. But with a delicious twist, some of the city's finest improv actors and comedians will be on hand to entertain, help and perhaps even humorously derail the best laid plans of the contestants – in the interests of the best possible fun, of course!
Coming together for this unique event, the first of its kind in Wellington, are many of the Waterfront's key attractions, including City Gallery Wellington, Te Papa, Mojo Coffee, the New Zealand Portrait Gallery (at Shed 11), the Wellington Central Library, and the Museum of Wellington City & Sea. And let's not forget Capital E, which would be a fine place to start and finish before taking in the Extravaganza.
Designed with entertainment and education in mind, there hasn't been a more exciting way for youngsters to learn about all our amazing waterfront has to offer. Also, at no point do participants need to cross the road.
So get cracking, get hunting and unearth some great prizes and fun this upcoming Wellington Anniversary Weekend!
