Two month before the celebration of Philippine Independence day, Tourism Secretary Richard Gordon called a Press Conference in the Department of Tourism regarding the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS )around the world.
Gordon said , SARS problems in Hongkong, Singapore, and China had caused at 25 percent declined in tourist arrivals in the country because the two cities and China are the fourth, fifth and sixth tourist markets of the Philippines.
The virus which causes has claimed at least 75 lives worldwide over the last two weeks, wtih mainland China reporting 46 deaths and 16 fatalities in Hongkong.
I remember last Wednesday the World Health Organization warned travellers to postpone visits to Hongkong and Guangdong province in southern CHina where SARS is thought to have originated.
